THE CONCERTS
The Brazilian master pianist who has been performing – as well as in Brazil – in Europe, the US and Canada, brings his music to Europe and North West Africa in July.
Taubkin will perform solo on piano in Europe, in Spain and the UK, where he makes his debut at the traditional venue in London, the Vortex Jazz Club. The concert, which immediately follows an artistic residence in Austria, will include themes from Brazilian music, embracing both its traditional and modern
expressions and fusing these with other world music influences.
“Dynamics,” says Benjamim, “are one of the main means to execute and explore contemporary music and its relation to bossa and jazz”. The themes are based on his most recent CD, recorded at Fazioli Salon, New York’s Piano House, which will be launched in the US by Adventure Music in 2009.
Benjamim also will be doing a tour and an artistic residence in Morocco with his quartet, formed by Ari Colares (percussion), Lula Alencar (accordion) and João Taubkin (bass). In Austria he will perform with his two ensembles: Moderna Tradição and with Núcleo de Música do Abacaí.
REVIEWS
“Played in a tender, understated style that spoke from the heart, “Vibrações” was gracefully ecstatic; Jobim’s “Morro Não Tem Vez”, a lyric, gentle samba, was light but rich; “Sabiá Voou” evoked the attentive birds outside Benjamim’s window in São Paulo; and ‘Consolação’ went so deeply into the cone that I forgot I was supposed to be paying attention”
